Further good news for Samsung as they today announced that their flagship handset, The Galaxy S2 has reached 10 million sales worldwide which comes just 8 weeks after reaching the 5 million point.

Samsung UK and Ireland Mobile MD Simon Stanford said: ‘We’ve seen phenomenal sales of the Galaxy S II globally and in the UK specifically we’ve achieved record sales of Galaxy S II in recent weeks – ahead of all other Android devices. He added: ‘We have ambitious plans for the Galaxy family over the coming months evidenced by a £12 million marketing campaign which will launch next week.’

The Samsung Galaxy S2 has been revealed as the most desirable phone. In fact the result saw the Android device take more than DOUBLE the votes of the IPhone 4 which came in at 2nd place.

The response was to a question posed by website Techradar which asked what phone readers would replace their current mobile with. The Samsung Galaxy S 2 and the IPhone 4 were the overwhelming winners with the Android device taking a massive 47% of the total votes.

The results looked like this:

On-line fraud expert, GARLIK, have reported that up to 40% of handsets lost or stolen do not have sufficient protection on them to prevent the users personal data from being stolen.

A large 14% of Smartphone users appear to save their BANK DETAILS on their handset whilst more alarmingly CREDIT CARD numbers and PIN Numbers are also often saved to an unprotected device.

Android Apps to Overtake IPhone Downloads

According to a report by Ovum, the total number of mobile apps downloaded across all platforms this year will hit 18 billion.

To put this figure into perspective last year’s figure was 7.4 billion so that’s a huge increase. It is forecast that from this total, some 8.1 billion will be for Android handsets, whilst downloads on Apple smartphones will provide approximately 6 billion.

Last week we reported that Android now has 47.8% of the UK Smartphone Market and this latest report enhances that fact.
