As you may or may not be aware, the Android operating system uses a naming convention based on desserts. From Android 1.6 “Donut” to the latest 4.3 “Jelly Bean” the Google owned mobile OS has chosen sweet treats as the code names for its various iterations.
It has been widely believed that the next version would be labelled Android 5.0 – Key Lime Pie, but recently a giant KitKat shaped Android statue has appeared outside Googleplex in Mountain View, Calilfornia.
Details have also appeared at android.com detailing the new version as 4.4 as opposed to 5.0, which could be a nod to Nestle’s 4 fingered snack.
It seems that Nestle have agreed to a mutually beneficial “no money changing hands” deal with the tech giants. Soon you will be able to buy Android branded KitKat bars in your local newsagents that give you the chance to win one of 1000 Nexus 7 tablets or 50,000 £5 Google Play vouchers.
As of yet there have been no details announced regarding the features of the new version of Android, but expect leaks to follow over the coming months.
