Apple last night announced two new handsets, the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.
The much anticipated Apple iPhone 5c has been launched to combat the diminishing market share in the UK market which has seen Samsung become the number 1 manufacturer with other players such as Sony snapping at their heels too.
The iPhone 5c will be available in green, blue, yellow, pink and white and features an A6 chip, ultra-fast wireless, an 8 megapixel iSight camera and iOS 7.
The "budget" Apple product will contain a 4" display with 1136x640 resolution, 326 ppi. Pre-order the iPhone 5C by clicking here
The 2nd model and probably one which existing Apple users will be looking at is the iPhone 5S. This is the top end model replacing the current iPhone 5 and will be available in silver, gold and 'space grey'.
The iPhone 5s features an A7 chip, a Touch ID fingerprint identity sensor, ultra-fast wireless, an iSight camera with a larger 8MP sensor and iOS 7 too.
Certainly a headline grabber is the Fingerprint Sensor which is uniquely available on this model only. It may sound very futuristic however it is something previously included on the Motorola Atrix so hardly inspiring stuff. This feature is built into the main 'Home' button located beneath the screen. "It reads your fingerprint at an entirely new level" - it's 170 microns in thickness with 500 ppi resolution. According to Cupertino, it "scans sub-epidermal skin layers,"
Strangely at a time when phone size is increasing Apple have decided to keep their flagship model with a 4" display. With more and more users streaming movie content we are not sure whether this is going to wet users appetites. Also we can confirm that the screen and camera specifications are no better on the 5s than the 5c which again is a strange move.
The camera is however an improved 8 megapixels allowing HD video recording, 30 fps, True Tone flash, Slo-mo video and Improved video stabilisation. You can also take still photos while recording videos. In addition there is Face detection, 3x zoom, Video geotagging and Tap to focus - certainly this feature looks good.
A good move by Apple with the 5S is to unveil a striking new colour not normally used in the industry. The new GOLD iPhone 5S will have some people biting at the bit and it does look very nice indeed. The handset is also available in Silver and 'Space Grey'
