What is European Roaming

European Roaming simply means the ability to use your mobile phone abroad, specifically in Europe.  This means using your device to make phone calls, send text messages and to use data services such as browsing and apps such as WhatsApp whilst in Europe.

 

Do I need a particular plan?

To have European Roaming with Vodafone you will either need a plan which includes roaming, or add an extra to your account for the period you are there.

 

Vodafone European Roaming Plan

Our new European Roaming Plan with Vodafone means that there is no need to add or remove bundles every time you travel.  For £35 per month you can enjoy Unlimited Calls, Unlimited Texts and Unlimited Data whilst in the UK and 25GB of data when travelling in Europe (Zone A and B).  Please note that there is a £2.50 price increase each April, meaning the monthly fee will increase to £37.50 on 1st April 2027 and £40 from 1st April 2028

Do I need to activate Roaming on my device?

Yes, to use your phone abroad you may need to allow your device to roam.  This can usually be found in your Settings and then “Roaming” which should be activated.

 

Is there a Roaming limit?

There is a fair usage policy of 25GB of data usage per month when roaming with either a suitable plan or add-on.  Once this has been used, you will be charged at a higher rate.  If you have a spend cap on your account this could restrict further usage so do check before travel.

 

How much data is 25GB?

25GB of data is a lot of usage.  Generally, this could allow 30-40 hours of browsing on social media, whilst you could watch approximately 8-12 hours of video with this.

 

What if I don’t want a Roaming Plan?

There is an alternative where you can purchase a short term Vodafone Roaming Pass.  An 8 Day roaming pass costs £15 and can be added to your account.  To do so, text 8DAYEUROPE to 40506.  Alternatively, for a 15 day pass text 15DAYEUROPE to 40506 instead.  This extra activates when you land in your destination.

 

Can I Roam without a Pass?

Yes, however you will charged £2.57 per day.

 

What if I travel further?

Global Roaming tariffs are also available which will allow inclusive roaming in 84 countries including Australia, Turkey, Mexico and the USA.  The countries are the same as listed above whilst adding the following Zone C countries:
